The Unconquered Sun Never Sets

Secrets of a Journey's End

Sidereal Session 2

In the middle of Tako’s exercises in educating Lash, he received a missive from the Bureau of Destiny – sealed with the highest priority. With barely any instructions save to return immediately to The Most Perfected Lotus of Heavenly Design, he immediately excused himself from the Eclipse, fading from memory as he returned back to Yu-Shan towards the nearest Celestial Gate. Having been told to come alone, Tako dismisses Brilliance of the Seas, the octopus godling immediately taking off to the sea to enjoy his newfound vacation time.

With instructions to meet his companions at the Cerulean Lute of Harmony, headquarters of the Division of Serenity, Tako headed to Theater Six, where a performance of “I Want to be Your Hummingbird” is currently playing. Seating himself at his designated location, he makes the acquaintances of Fortuitous Sails, Chosen of Journeys, and Verdant Wings of the Sagacious Skies, Chosen of Secrets. The excitable Journeys conversed with Tako animatedly while the sullen Secrets kept his gaze on the performance, only exchanging small talk with the jovial Endings.

When the performance had ended, they extracted a package from underneath Tako’s seat as instructed and found a most curious piece: [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets]. Surprised at having such an item in their hands, the three Sidereals decide to ask no further inquiries and corroborated their mission parameters: Sails had been informed that their destination is a location somewhere in Gateway, Wavecrest, while Verdant Wings details the rest of the mission parameters: [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets]. It appeared to Tako that he was there as the security detail and to oversee sanctions and assassinations should it come down to that. With that the three Sidereals take the nearest Celestial Gate back to the West.

Upon reaching the familiar marketplaces of Gateway, Fortuitous Sails immediately unfurls the Yellow Path, Mercury immediately showing them their destination: a luxurious-looking mansion in the central business district of Gateway. Upon entering the area, however, they are surprised to find that they are [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets]. Finding themselves at such a queer disadvantage in Creation, the Chosen of the Maidens decide to explore the apparently-empty house, Tako bearing in mind that danger is afoot.

The house appeared to have been abandoned in haste, dust gathering on its floors and the remains of a meal on the dining hall. Forced to explore the house the hard way, the three Sidereals trudged through the foul stench assailing their noses and decided to split up, Sails exploring the ground floor, Verdant Wings taking the second floor study rooms, and Tako wandering around the third floor bedrooms.

One of the bedrooms that Tako entered was a woman’s bedroom, a place of exceptional vanity and luxury. Noticing a hanging portrait on the wall, he is surprised to discover that the house is that of an acquaintance. This was pierced by a terrified scream from Fortuitous Sails down below, igniting Tako’s danger sense earlier and prompting the two other Sidereals to bound down towards the Journey’s aid.

At the basement, they were surprised to discover six embattled individuals locked in a deadly game of slit-one-another’s-throats. Noting the fact that they were all [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets], the three Sidereals recoil in horror as [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets]. The act almost broke Fortuitous Sails’s Willpower and Verdant Wings had to compose himself. Tako was no less surprised and shocked than the other two.

At the battle’s wake, with three of the [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets] left, one of them addressed the three Sidereals, acknowledging their arrival and urging them to finish their task and ignore their presence. When the three Sidereals adamantly inquire about the strange and horrifying incident they could only describe as “Treason to the Maidens themselves”, they are instead asked to seek out The Cobalt Scales of Liberty within the Bureau of Destiny. Having heard of no such office, they are given a riddle in response: “Pierce the Veil of Destiny and be Freed of the Chains of Fate”. With barely little information wrought, the [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets] disappeared.

After finishing their task, the three Sidereals pondered on their next course of action. Drawing decisions from a Wise Choice, Tako is led to encourage his comrades to seek out this mysterious office within the Bureau, which they surprisingly find within its halls – a navy blue courthouse with a statue of a blindfolded man holding a weighing scale on his right hand, a torch blazing with deep blue flames on the other. Peering inside, they are greeted by darkness until it was pierced by a dim blue light, illuminating [Information Redacted by the Maiden of Secrets].

[This entire paragraph has been Redacted by the Five Maidens]

After the curious encounter, the three Sidereals find themselves somewhere within the Most Perfected Lotus, albeit at different locations. Having been instructed to return to their assignments, Tako returned to the Exalts he was overseeing, excusing his absence to being assigned a curious assassination mission from the Bureau of Destiny.

Session 2

The Exalts found themselves sailing towards The Anemone Garden – an island filled with lush and dense vegetation all around it. Reading through Saturos and Menardi’s journal, Lash of the Sublime Heart convinced Night of the Thousand Eyes, Her Sickle from the Lightening Skies, and Ezael Soul-Iris to look into the island’s secrets on pretenses of the breathable water that the island’s mystical pool supposedly possesses. Night of the Thousand Eyes inquired about a location known as Bay Fifteen and Ezael about a place called Silver Cove, but the Eclipse was adamant to pay a visit to the Garden. Under oath from heaven, Night swore to bring Lash to the island in exchange for information about the mysterious Bay Fifteen.

Tako was nowhere to be found, nor can he be remembered. The Sidereal had been ordered by the Bureau to return for a side assignment that would form a dangerous link to his current missions at hand.

They reached The Anemone Garden after two days at sea and Skies immediately took off to conduct a preemptive reconnaissance of the area. She only found three things of noteworthy importance and corroborates what Lash had translated in the journal: the mystical pool of water, a cube-shaped structure made of stone, and rustling amongst the dense foliage of trees that could only suggest the dangerous beast that inhabits the island and roams around during the evenings. Having arrived at evening, the Exalts decide to let the evening pass.

The following morning found them trekking their way through the island’s dense foliage. Ezael closely inspected the flora of the island starting from the shorelines, noting that the plants growing on it were exceptionally healthy and rich. Following the river network that ran across the island, they reached the middle, where indeed the pool of water lay. The excited Twilight discovered a few herbs of exceptional medicinal value, which may be formulated into a poultice for soothing wounds and minor illnesses. Peering through the pool, the waters were crystal clear, a coral and limestone staircase extending around its edges and spiraling downward. Night leads the trek downward, closely followed by Skies and having Ezael and Lash at the back. The water was proven breathable the moment they submerged completely and found themselves taking in water that was welcomed by their bodies.

The staircase gradually expanded to a larger superstructure underneath, eventually reaching a massive amphitheater structure at the bottom. It would have appeared empty had it not been for their sharp senses that picked up a lot of beings that lay in despaired states on the amphitheater’s coral seats: decrepit gods and elementals in varying ages and forms, each one exhibiting some form of weakness or debilitation. Ezael took note of the exceptional glowing plants that cast illumination in the area, pocketing a few samples for his use.

Azure Heart of the Basin, the god watching over the enchanted pool, welcomes the Exalts into the society known as The Congregation of the Reef – a shelter and refuge for gods and elementals that have lost their sanctums and domains and had nowhere else to turn to for aid. The god explained that the poor gods and elementals have lost their domains recently due to a sudden change in their worshipers or having their domains suddenly destroyed by unexpected mortals. Sensing a connection with the rogue god Lurker at the Threshold, the Exalts swear under heaven’s oath once again to include the despaired gods in their objectives.

Much information was gleaned from several gods that they conversed with, pinpointing that the first god to lose his domain was a farming god in the island of Halcyon, to the west of Abalone, and the last god was the island god of the famous Prison Island Alfava Metraxis, who have lost his wardens’ faith and support and have slowly dragged the island to distress. Ezael took notice that most of the gods that have lost their domains are within the agricultural purviews – farm gods, irrigation gods, water source gods, even crop gods. Very few are fishing gods and sea-related divinities and elementals.

Before they parted, the gods asked if the Exalts had slain the beast that was protecting their refuge. Having not taken any chances engaging a potentially dangerous beast, the Exalts say they have not, and the gods offer them safe passage from its dangers as it is the only thing standing as their protection from having the island defiled by the rogue god’s followers as well.

Emerging from the enchanted pool, the Exalts trudge through more foliage and finally reached the mysterious cube-shaped structure. Having been forewarned that the structure is an Anathema tomb that Saturos and Menardi have littered with traps, Night takes charge and scans the surroundings of the structure for anything suspicious. True enough, his senses are proven right as they find an assembly of green jade pebbles that almost resembled animal refuse, had it not been for the fact that it was placed in such a manner that would be unbecoming of animals. A deadly latticework of tripwires also hung after this layer.

Believing them to be pitfall traps and razor-sharp wires, Night takes a closer look at one of the refuse-like pitfalls. Sensing the traps to be of artifice make, he and Ezael collaboratively disarm a line of traps, clearing a path for them to follow. The razor tripwires were easily eluded by Skies lifting them above the deadly network of green jade strings, shaping into the form of a flying animal.

Inscriptions were carved all around the structure and Ezael could barely make out the Old Realm translations of what appeared to be prayer rituals and burial incantations. The structure was hermetically sealed with no trace of a doorway, though keen touch proves that the inside is hollow and there appeared to be a weaker section of the wall. Feeling their way around, Lash catches a lever that she was able to pull, which triggered some machinery whose groaning did not escape Ezael’s ears. They felt around for more such levers and finally a section of the wall gave way to an entrance, the slabs collapsing as their holding mechanisms disengaged.

The tomb was barely superficial, with tapestry that they assessed as moderately valuable. At the burial chamber itself, they were greeted by a bullion of treasure that came with the sarcophagus of the Eclipse Solar that was buried there. Lash excitedly plucked out the artifacts that adorned the sarcophagus, while Ezael felt through the sarcophagus and sensed more treasure inside. They opened the coffin and found the dead Solar’s armor and fist weapons, the Solar itself having been reduced to dust by time. Triumphant at their find, they made their way back to the ship, only after discovering as they emerged how the pitfall trap actually works: a chicken wandering into one, falling into a ten-foot pitfall, the pebbles assembling a sturdy netting that covered the hole, and the poor chicken perishing as poisonous fumes filled the hole.

Deciding to return to Gateway to report to Albatross Mariner and to look into the Blue Lotus, the Exalts returned to the city and consulted with the Deva of Wavecrest, who eagerly took in their reports and thanked them once again for their services. As the Jyliweed specimen they possessed now infested an entire cabin with its thick growth and fragrant flowers, Night orders his crew to burn them at the city outskirts, advising them to wear masks to protect them from its dangerous fumes.

A trip to the Blue Lotus proves both comedic and disappointing as Mitsu Hirato, the Lotus’s manager, fires up in rage at a flustered Lash, who inconsequentially admits to being the carrier of the Jyliweed plant that they were supposed to deliver, its contents now burning in the shores of Gateway as they spoke. Placating the mortal as Skies, in a dog form, put her paws over her head in disappointment and the lurking Night of the Thousand Eyes almost spat out the coffee he was subtly drinking from the refreshments, Lash promises that the package will be replaced and they needed information where the item can be acquired again. Mitsu Hirato consults his records and one name comes up: Silver Cove’s Fakir Farm

Ezael decides to consult his contacts and informants within Gateway before returning to the ship, inquiring about Mark Dawn Treader’s whereabouts. While he is aware that the God-Blooded who set him upon the mysterious task lives in the island of Halcyon and his family owns a vast string of plantations, he currently has no idea of the God-Blooded’s current whereabouts and thus has asked his informants to notify him by letter if they catch wind of anyting.

Lash decides to make a side trip home as the other Exalts returned to the ship. Upon reaching home, she finds that it has not been dusted nor attended to since her departure, the stench of rotting meals on the dining table and cobwebs on the walls. The stench of blood curdles her own, however, as she descended into the basement and found the bodies of three of their family’s trusted servants, their throats slit bloody open. Her flight from the house with her belongings was not uneventful, as she felt eyes trained at her as she left her house in haste.

Surprised at her sudden return with her belongings, Night inquires whether Lash was earnest to go home or to flee it, and it was pierced with Tako’s return to their memories, announcing that he had just returned from a curious assassination mission from the Bureau.

A Beginning from An End

Session 1

In the Bureau of Destiny in Yu-Shan, the agent known as Tako, Eight Tales, Chosen of Endings, receives his next assignment: to put an end to a grand conspiracy in the Western Region that will inevitably involve four Celestial Exalts: three Lawgivers and a Steward. He immediately sets off towards the nearest Celestial Gate of his starting location: The City of Gateway in the island of Abalone, part of the Wavecrest Archipelago.

Having finished a prior expedition to a small Wyld pocket near the Neck, Night of the Thousand Eyes receives his next mission from the Coral Navy: conduct reconnaissance and apprehend two God-Blooded drug smugglers that will be transporting a very dangerous substance in Wavecrest. While the mission is certainly not one that should concern Coral as a whole, Night dismisses the fact and heads to Wavecrest without any hesitation. He arrives at the city of Gateway, the place where the smugglers are said to be headed. Little does he know that Her Sickle from the Lightening Skies, a Lunar Exalted, has been smuggled onboard his ship, a wolf that he had rescued from a Wyld pocket and one he has somehow felt an attachment towards.

Fresh from a good night’s rest, the lady known as Lash of the Sublime Heart is summoned by her mother with an important task at hand: meet and escort a thaumaturge who will be transporting an important item into Wavecrest. Acting as her liaison, Lash is handed the official orders from their client, sealed with the insignia of a circle split vertically by a crooked line, a dot on the upper part of the inner left side and another on the lower part of the outer right side. Happily Lash sets off, eager to please her mother and to continue learning more of Wavecrest’s convoluted bureaucracy. She was told to expect a man with a potted plant in his possession at the Garuda’s Talon, a popular tavern in Gateway.

In search of his next big expedition, the explorer Ezael Soul-Iris is approached by a God-Blooded friend, Mark Dawn Treader, with a small favor in hand: a small potted plant that needs transporting to the city of Gateway in Wavecrest in his behalf. Hesitant at first, Dawn Treader secures his services by offering a map that leads to an uncharted location in the region, a rumored ruins that date back to the High First Age. Plant in hand, Ezael sets off towards Wavecrest to fulfill the simple errand.

Tako reaches Gateway and, tempted by the local delicacies and trinkets being sold in the busy port town, gets momentarily distracted and engages in enthusiastic business, making off with an expensive Siaka fang in the process. Finally he consults the stars for a lead, turning up a path that ends up at the Garuda’s Talon. Unsure whether the stars gave him a lead for his hunger pangs or his mission at hand, Tako enters the tavern.

Ezael promptly arrives in Wavecrest and reaches the Garuda’s Talon – the place where he was supposed to meet his contact, a woman of noble upbringing. Lash of the Sublime Heart immediately approaches Ezael and inquires about the plant in his possession, opening a somewhat awkward and confusing conversation as details do not seem to corroborate. With Night of the Thousand Eyes listening in and Lightening Skies trailing the Night Caste in her wolf form, an arrest immediately ensues, much to Tako’s surprise and fear when he entered the tavern.

Things quickly escalate and complicate when Peleps Saturos, a Water-Aspected Dragon-Blooded, and Ragara Menardi, a Fire-Aspected Dragon-Blooded, ambushes the five shortly after, claiming that a certain tip-off has led them to check out five Anathema that have gathered in the Garuda’s Talon. Much to the two Terrestrials’ satisfaction, they did confirm they were Anathema after Lightening Skies sheds off her wolf form and pounces upon Saturos in her full Lunar glory. A fierce fight ensues that leads to the tavern’s destruction by fire. In the end, a heavily-wounded Saturos was forced to flee and Lightening Skies’s rage costed Menardi her life. In the midst of the commotion, Lash and Ezael fled, prompting Night and Skies to follow them. Tako pursues desperately, his assignment trailing towards failure before his very eyes.

As the Exalts confront one another in the streets of Gateway, Lash’s feeble attempts to subtly influence Night just leads to their further arrest, not helped by the fact that she suddenly remembered the establishment that owns the seal from whence their orders came: The Blue Lotus, a well known drug den in Gateway. Having threatened Tako away, he eludes Skies’s watch by shedding his Resplendency, secretly trailing them as Night and Skies took Ezael and Lash away. The plant, which remained in Skies’s possession after confiscating it from Ezael, took notice that the plant had grown extensively since the first time they laid eyes on it, a strong scent emanating from its flowers causing her to feel somewhat light-headed.

Night kept the two captive within his ship while he filed his report as instructed and buried it on the ground. Almost immediately, an elderly fisherman appeared behind him and inquired about the two prisoners he now keeps, claiming to be the man who assigned the mission to him. He leads the fisherman to his ship, the fisherman noticing Tako sneaking aboard and motioning him to accompany them, surprised that a ‘Vizier’ is getting involved in the affairs.

In the brig, tensions are diffused as the fisherman reveals himself to be Albatross Mariner, Patron God of the Archipelago of Wavecrest. A high-ranking God within the Western Terrestrial Bureaucracy, he reveals a plot by a rogue debauchery God, Lurker at the Threshold, patron God of the strange plant that now sat on the table in front of them all – Jyliweed. Grateful for the Exalts’ efforts to keep the plant from reaching the wrong hands, he was struck with great interest as to why Lawgivers were transporting the item instead of God-Blooded as he had anticipated, why a Lawgiver and a Steward was put in charge to apprehending them, and why a Vizier is involved in the entire matter. It becomes a conclusion that the entire matter has been a setup and that it would merit further investigation in the future.

Albatross Mariner profusely thanks the Exalts for their service and offers them a small boon in exchange for their troubles: a red jade Wavecleaver Daiklave called ‘Marsa’, Menardi’s prized weapon of choice, and a journal that detailed Saturos and Menardi’s expeditions in the Wavecrest Archipelago as part of their duties to the Western Wyld Hunt. Written in Terrestrial High Realm, only Lash was able to decipher most of its contents, including maps to ancient ruins, rumored Solar tombs, and even a few manses that seemed to have endured through the Second Age.

With a cryptic warning that danger is upon the Exalted – one that can threaten both the mortal and supernatural order of the West – Albatross Mariner bids them farewell and looks forward to seeking their services in the near future. In the meantime, Night decides that they should immediately leave Gateway and seek out one of the ruins within Saturos and Menardi’s journal.
